Read this before you write
A first exchange, whether by email, by telephone or on an introductory call, does not create a lawyer and client relationship. That relationship begins only when a written engagement has been agreed and confirmed on both sides.
Until then, please keep your first message general. Describe the type of question, the parties involved by name, and the timeline. Do not send confidential or privileged material, and do not send documents, before a conflict of interest check has been completed and you have been told the file can be opened. Naming the parties is what allows that check to be run quickly.

Email is the most reliable channel for a first contact and creates a written record of what was asked. Messages are answered within one business day.
Booking a first call
The online booking page shows current availability. An introductory call is short and is used to identify the question, confirm whether it is governed by Quebec law, run the conflicts check and determine whether the firm is the right place for the matter. No advice is given on that call and no relationship is formed by it. If the matter should sit with counsel in another jurisdiction, or with a firm of a different size, you will be told so directly.
What to include in a first message
A first message is more useful when it answers four things. What kind of matter it is, in one or two sentences. Who the other parties are, by legal name. What the connection to Quebec is, whether that is customers, employees, an establishment, a supplier or the location of data. And what the deadline is, if there is one, including any regulatory or contractual date already fixed.
If you are counsel at another firm referring a Quebec question, say so at the outset and identify your client. Instructions then come from you, and the file is handled as referral work.
Languages and how the firm works
Files are handled in French or in English, as you prefer, and documents can be produced in either language. Meetings are held remotely by default, which is how most work with clients outside Quebec is done. In person meetings in Montreal are available when a matter calls for one.
Who you will be dealing with
Satoshi Legal is the practice of Erwan Jonchères, a member of the Barreau du Québec since 2018. The person who answers your first message is the person who handles the file.
Fees
Fees are discussed before any work begins and are confirmed in a written engagement letter that sets out the scope, the basis on which fees are calculated and what is excluded. No fee information is published on this site, because the appropriate basis depends on the nature and scope of the mandate. Ask on the first call and you will get a direct answer for your situation.
Jurisdiction
Erwan Jonchères is a member of the Barreau du Québec and practises Quebec law. Satoshi Legal does not provide legal services governed by the law of another Canadian province or territory. If your question falls outside Quebec law, say so in your message and you will be pointed in a more useful direction rather than kept in a process that cannot help you.
Complaints and professional oversight
The practice is subject to the rules of the Barreau du Québec, including its rules on professional secrecy, conflicts of interest and the handling of client funds. Concerns about the conduct of a file should be raised directly by email in the first instance.
